SARATOGA COUNTY ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY COUNCIL CELEBRATES NATIONAL COMMUNITY ACTION MONTH

Each May community action agencies across the country participate in recognition events to celebrate the great strides that have been made combating poverty at the local level.  The Saratoga County Economic Opportunity Council, Inc. (EOC) is Saratoga County’s local community action agency and has been helping low-income families since 1973.  During the month of May, EOC sought nominations of organizations and residents who have done extraordinary things to help the low-income populations of Saratoga County.

Despite the constant threat of budget cuts and an increased demand for services, EOC continues to be a beacon of hope for the county’s low-income families.  Inspired community members work together to fight poverty and find solutions and new strategies for ending it.  EOC is please to announce the 2008 recipients of the National Community Action Award.  Honored this year will be The Presbyterian-New England Congregational Church, Ms. Yvonne Sinnamon, Mr. Robert D’Andrea, Dr. Stephen Dautel, and Mr. Paul Phillips at the annual Community Action Breakfast on June 27, 2008.  Each one of these awardees has recognized the economic uncertainty their neighbors face and work with EOC to make a significant impact on the lives of others.
